Even if youíve never been to San Francisco before, youíve probably already been there in your imagination. There are far too many movies that have been filmed in the city to list but a few classic favorites are Mrs. Doubtfire, Sister Act, Milk, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and about a hundred more. If this isnít enough to convince you to journey to the golden city then consider instead its rich history riddled with destruction and hopeful rebirth.
When to go:While most people think of San Francisco as sunny and fair all year round, it actually gets a hefty amount of fog. This can be a big disappointment to honeymooners who planned on enjoying the cable cars in the sunniest of weather. The months of April through October offer the clearest skies and the warmest waters. Other months, the water is far too cold for even the bravest swimmers.
When not to go:As stated before, the months prior to April and following October can be foggy and cloudy. The water is also too cold to really enjoy the beaches. You should also check with the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce prior to booking your travel dates as the area has plenty of local events such as marathons that can get rather big quickly. This can make travel slow and privacy minimal for couples trying to enjoy the city at a faster pace.
Culture shock factor:Unless you are from outside the US, there is no culture shock associated with San Francisco. However, note that there is a very liberal gay community which may be new to some. The neighborhood is very lovely and the people are very friendly so if this is new to you consider it a learning curve for dismissing the stereotypes.
What to do while youíre here:While youíre here make sure to stop and ride the famed cable cars. If you were a big fan of the 80ís hit classic sitcom Full House, make sure to journey to the Western Addition neighborhood to see the home of the fictional Tanner family. Be sure to visit the Golden Gate Bridge as well as the many wonderful museums and donít miss the local cuisine! San Francisco is the perfect place for a couple who wants to see it all. Those who make the journey almost always come back. After all you might just find out itís much like Frank Sinatra once said you ďleft your heart in San Francisco.Ē
